I think I got it. There is a vavle in the return pipe so I just dialed back the flow and noise is gone. Maybe not the correct way to do it but for the time being it pleases the wife.

Try adding a elbow pointing down first, then if that doesn't work try adding a ball valve to the drain so you can slightly slow it down so the water covers the bulkhead so it's submerged and not sucking any air

Loads of boiled bugs now. I guess they would have just drowned in the tank but I guess it doesn't hurt to boil the rocks.

Maybe I am confused. Basically I need more water in my overflow box to cover the pipe? Or add an elbow inside the overflow box pointing up? 90 inside over flow pointing down

90 inside over flow pointing down How's it working? did you have to cut down the 90 to make it fit? I have not added a 90 or cut anything. I did tune back my return pump and the gurgling went away. It still needs some fine tuning but, haven't gotten that far.

Two more questions to ponder on:
1. Should I run a skimmer during the break in period? 2. I have a ton of micro bubbles, is that because its the beginning of the tank cycle?

I ran my skimmer , and I would need to look at your sump to figure out micro bubbles, baffles and travel time and finding where the air is getting introduced with my eyes is the only way I can tell. I have my skimmer return where it has to travel back through an over and under baffle before getting to my return pump. Hope that helps, if not holler at me this week, would love to see your setup, nice thing is you got several weeks to tune it up :-)

Just putting my 2 cents but I've tested several different store brand waters that are supposed to be distilled or purified and they are "filthy." Normally 50+ TDS and who knows what that is but I'm not gonna suggest anyone pour dirty water in expensive reef tanks. RODI water is the way to go.

Do that if at all possible. I have a big box full of PVC fittings in the back of my shop and pipe as well if you ever wanna rummage through it and save some money.
